PhD opportunities
A PhD position starting in fall 2027 will open within the SLEEC project (machine learning for 21cm cosmology, see below). More information will be posted here in January 2027. In the meantime, if you are interested, please get in touch!
Postdoc opportunities
Two 2-year postdocs in machine learning for 21cm cosmology (Paris, France)
We are hiring two postdocs to join the ANR project SLEEC (Self-supervised LEarning for Exploring 21cm Cosmology), which uses self-supervised and generative machine learning, in particular diffusion models, to get the most out of future SKA observations of the Epoch of Reionisation. The project builds on LoReLi, a public database of about 10,000 radiative-transfer simulations of reionisation.
- Position 1 – LUX, Observatoire de Paris: learned summary statistics for 21cm inference (e.g. contrastive or self-supervised learning).
- Position 2 – IAS, Université Paris-Saclay, Orsay: field-level inference with diffusion models, comparing DDPMs with Hamiltonian Monte Carlo sampling.
Profile: PhD in astrophysics, cosmology, physics, statistics or machine learning by the start date, with experience in machine learning (ideally generative or self-supervised models) and/or Bayesian inference. Experience with 21cm cosmology is a plus but not required.
Start date: between March and October 2027 (negotiable).
Deadline: 30 November 2026 · interviews in January 2027, selection in
February 2027.
How to apply: upload a single PDF containing a CV with publication list, a research statement (max. 3 pages, excluding references), and a cover letter (including the names of two referees) at this link.
Informal enquiries are welcome: Adélie Gorce and Benoit Semelin.
